Salsa was born between Cuba, Puerto Rico and New York from the meeting of several cultures, and it takes on different nuances and different styles depending on the place where it is danced and on the various artists who, over the years, have brought their way of interpreting it to the attention of audiences worldwide. Yet it keeps the characteristics of a social and popular dance and above all the “sabor” typical of Afro-Cuban influences, and it remains stylistically tied to the popular traditions of Caribbean folklore.
The style adopted by AlmaSabrosa is that of Maestro David García.
Schedule and levels
Salsa and Bachata
They are fun partner dances rich in individual movements, born as a moment of celebration and socialising, and they represent a universal language with which, simply by dancing, you can communicate with strangers anywhere in the world, share this passion with them and make new friends. In the partner work the man leads and the woman lets herself be guided. This dynamic allows both to relate to each other, get in tune and trust in each other’s complicity. The study of individual movements increases confidence in controlling one’s own body; the styling gives the woman great femininity and the man the right virility, generating greater confidence and self-esteem in both.
Beginner level
It is the basic level and must allow anyone to be part of it. Those who are complete beginners and don’t even know what salsa and bachata are, those who have never danced and are looking for an amateur approach purely to have fun and socialise, but also those who have already tried dancing yet have never taken lessons: AlmaSabrosa offers a quick and fun path that allows everyone to get onto a dance floor as soon as possible and to move freely to the rhythm of Caribbean music. The “AlmaSabrosa” method indeed provides beginners with an easy approach that covers the basics of movement of bachata and salsa, with brief introductions to the basic techniques of body movement, coordination and rhythm. This method will allow beginners to express themselves in full freedom and in harmony with their own body, following the rhythm of the music, alone or in a couple, with the movements most congenial to them, also dictated by their own taste.
Intermediate and advanced levels
At intermediate and advanced levels you start to distinguish some elements of Cuban and line salsa (Puerto Rico, Los Angeles and New York); you deepen some movement techniques and some stylistic devices. Finally, for true enthusiasts, it is possible to explore — both from a historical-cultural point of view and from that of dance technique and above all of rhythm (on1, on2 – son, breaking on2, clave) and of body movement — those foundations of Afro, Rumba, Son, Cha cha cha, Mambo, etc. from which salsa originates and of which it represents a complex evolution.
Dancers will thus be able to best interpret different rhythms or sounds, managing to express with body movement what the piece of music suggests and, once they have mastered the movement technique, to perfect the chosen style as well as the choreographic variations. The result, together with the awareness of what one’s own body is expressing while dancing, aims to be an exponential growth of enjoyment, with that explosion of taste and “sabor” that inevitably happens when technique and style become pure instinct.
Choreographic Laboratory and “Almasabrosa Project”
In the courses you learn to improvise to the music and to dance with anyone, but some dancers of various levels also try studying choreographies to refine their technique and style. The “Almasabrosa Project” group is made up of advanced-level dancers who take part in the choreographic laboratory.
Reggaeton and body movement
To give free rein to the desire to dance freely and to train body movement, there is also a reggaeton course, an individual dance with typically Latin movements.
